VAKFIKEBİRThe first name of the Vakfıkebir was Fol. This name comes from a same named river, which is born 45 km south of the district and poures into the sea in the district center.
The second name of the Vakfıkebir was Büyükliman (Big Port). The part between the Cape of Fener (Yeros) in the east of the Vakfıkebir and the Zeytin (Yobol) in the west is a closed, natural port.
Vakfıkebir is named by Gülbahar Hatun, the mother of Yavuz Sultan Selim. Gulbahar Hatun, who traveled from Istanbul to Trabzon by sea to see her son Sultan Selim who was the Governor of Trabzon, was caught in a big storm, and she promised that she would dedicate the land she first stepped to the God.
