ORTAHISAR
The name of the central district of Trabzon, which is a metropolitan city with the design of the metropolis which was accepted on 12 November 2012, was determined as Ortahisar. Ortahisar, the largest city in the city, is also the oldest settlement of the province with its historical and cultural heritage. It is possible to see the ruins of many castles built for the safety of coastal lines, historical roads and settlements along Ortahisar, the central district of Trabzon province. This fortress, which has been resistant to reaching from the past hundreds or even thousands of years, is standing as clear evidence of its significance along with its historical background. Historians record that the city was founded about 4,000 years ago and that its founders were local Ortahisar Caucasian communities and Turkish tribes from Central Asia and Caucasus. This beautiful city, which has hosted humans since ancient times, has joined the Ottoman Empire by Fatih Sultan Mehmet on October 26, 1461 after the domination of Miletas, Persians, Romans, Arabs, Byzantines, Seljuks and Komnenoslar. TThis city, which was conquered by Sultan Mehmet the Conqueror, ruled by Yavuz Sultan Selim’s majesty, the birthplace of Sultan Suleyman the Magnificent and visited by the founder of our Republic, Ataturk and many travelers such as here are many famous travelers such as Marco Polo, Ruy Gonzâles de Clavijo, Evliya Çelebi, Charles Texier and Fallmerayer, is an important commercial center since ancient times with the reason that it is located on the historical Silk Road.
